Red Dead Redemption 2 delayed until 2018, if you can believe such surprising news

You might want to secure your jaw before you read this abrupt and shocking news-- Red Dead Redemption 2 has been delayed until Spring 2018.

If you didn't see this delay coming, it's time to brush up on your Rockstar history. The developer has delayed more blockbuster games in the last 15 years than almost all of its competitors.

The company stated that Red Dead Redemption "will be the first Rockstar game created from the ground up for the latest generation of console hardware, and some extra time is necessary to ensure that we can deliver the best experience possible for our fans."

The statement went on to read, "We are very sorry for any disappointment this delay causes, but we are firm believers in delivering a game only when it is ready. We are really excited to bring you more details about the game this summer. In the meantime, please enjoy this selection of new screenshots from the world of Red Dead Redemption 2."

Rockstar traditionally tries to stay away from major gaming expos like E3, so it's unlikely we'll see any additional announcements in June. Plus, RDR2 is a big enough game to warrant a dedicated gameplay reveal.

To tide fans over, the developer released a series of never-before-seen screenshots.
